Public Trial
So we take the criminals’ that planed 9/11 and are giving them a fair trial in US courts. Not only US courts but downtown NY courts. They can see the fruits of their labors and laugh every day.
First and foremost they are not US citizens and do not deserve and are not entitled to the rights we as citizens are entitled to. But the rule innocent until proven guilty still does apply. We are not barbarians. They should be tried, in a military court, they are prisoners of war. A war they declared and started …..If you remember.
This attempt to appear fair to the rest of the world is naive and dangerous. Instead of fair we are going to appear look weak and open to further attack. That’s before the trail begins. Should we get a jury that can’t pull the trigger like the OJ jury then we are the worlds bitch.
Simply put we as a country are giving, caring, mean, nice, every variation of every one of us. We are a country made up of individual people and cannot be defined by one name tag. To keep us free from those who would do us harm we, to quote Theodore Roosevelt, must talk softly, but carry a big stick.

I for one applaud the President for his gutsy move to have the trial of these terrorists in an open public court. These villains attacked not a military target but a public target. The majority of the victims were ordinary citizens like you and me. Non Combatants. We deserve our chance to extract a measure of retribution on them. We deserve our day in court.
Perhaps, more importantly, we need to show the world that the United States of America is part of the world. We are not a separate country untouched and uncaring to the woes of this planet. We are part of it just like everyone else. All men are created equal is not a statement of fact for those born within the boundaries of the USA it is a statement of fact for everyone born on this planet.
We will not as some claim, get this one wrong. We were all victims on that day and as such will come together to convict these vile people of the wrongs they have brought upon us.
It is time my friends to step up from our rolls as US citizens and become world citizens. That’s what this is about and that’s what we are about.

Isn't it "walk softly and carry a big stick" there, M-sox?
Big Stick ideology, or Big Stick diplomacy, or Big Stick policy, is a form of hegemony and was the slogan describing U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt’s corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. The term originated from the phrase “Speak softly and carry a big stick." The idea of negotiating peacefully, simultaneously threatening with the “big stick”, or the military, ties in heavily with the idea of Realpolitik, which implies an amoral pursuit of political power that resembles Machiavellian ideals.[1] Roosevelt first used the phrase in a speech at the Minnesota State Fair on September 2, 1901,

Might wanna visit http://www.genevaconventions.org. The UN made these rules in 1949 that pertain to humanitarian treatment and, although Bush didn't feel the need to follow these codes, perhaps Obama has his wits about him and knows the importance of guidelines such as these.
Let me know when the UN is relevant in terms of the International Political System.
